Woah, I'm going to Cambodia!

My Story
Hello, I'm Andy, you probably know me. You may know I've been working in affordable housing for 35 years or so, whilst raising a family, pursuing a career and having a laugh along the way. It's a pretty standard life story so far, nothing remarkable but that's fine, most of us like it that way dont we!
But every now and then the planets align and you get the opportunity to step outside the comfort zone. And so with the support of the brilliant CALA Homes team, I'm embarking on a bit of an adventure. On the 1st Feb 2019 nine colleagues and I will be jumping on a plane and going to Cambodia with the objective of helping families build their first secure and permanent home. Habitat for Humanity is a worldwide charity and their work is internationally recognised as being life changing for thousands of poverty stricken families.
I'll be digging foundations, mixing and pouring concrete, making and laying bricks and everything else besides. And all this on a diet of fried tarantulas and rice. I reckon that by the end of the trip I'll look a bit like Bruce Willis in Die Hard so you as a donor (oh yes, I'm asking for your money!) feel free to ask for pictures!
If you're as old as me you may remember as a child watching the news about how the regime in Cambodia devastated the country, to such an extent that it will take many generations to rebuild lives and lift the country out of poverty. So for me, this cause resonates on two levels: firstly it's been there in the back of my mind since childhood and secondly, it's building affordable housing which will chime with a good number of my readers as most of you, like me, work in this field.
Right, the hard sell. We get a lot of requests like this don't we, and after all, charity begins at home so maybe I'll just delete. Fair comment and I've done that a few times myself, I totally get it and understand the reasoning. But please, take a moment to visualise the lives of these kids and their parents. The basics in life we take for granted are their daily challenges.
Make a donation and I guarantee it'll turn into a smile that lasts a brick-built lifetime. No matter how small your donation is, it really does all count and please, help me smash my target. Oh, and did I mention CALA will matchfund individual fundraising so Habitat gets double bubble!
Please contact me if you feel inspired to step it up and get your company name on a sticker on a hard hat or printed on a T-shirt or something like that. We're open to suggestions from any organisation or group of individuals so do come back to me on this if you have any creative ideas.
Finally, thank you for taking a moment in your day to listen to me. Now please find another 60 seconds to dig your card out and help me help some families who desperately need it. Seriously, thank you.
