My Story

Living in the United States, I have sometimes taken things for granted.  As I have gotten a little bit older, I have been learning how extremely fortunate I am here.  In this country, we have immediate access to clean water, food, education, transportation, disposable income, opportunities for financial growth, and so much more.  Unfortunately, there are those both in this country and outside of this country that do not have access to one or some of these items that we may take for granted.

I have always wanted to make sure that everyone has access to the same opportunites that those who are more fortunate have, especially to groups that would be considered racial minorities here in the United States.  This year, I have been given the opportunity to assist a group in need.  I will be traveling to beautiful Brazil, with Habitate for Humanity to help families in need who have restricted access to usable water in their homes.  These families may have to walk long distances just to collect clean water that has not been contaminated.

I will be in Brazil from October 12th and 20th, and our team will build 16,000 litre water tanks, along with the mechanism to collect rain water to help prevent contamination and allow for safe water. We will be doing the follwing:

Cement preparation
Cement Plates Production and assembling
Tying wires around the plates
Plastering and Painting Cistern´s walls
Water Pump Production and Installation

All the fees collected will go towards the materials needed for this project and transportation. Housing, meals, and other costs will be covered by Habitat for Humanity
