My Story

Following our tremendous success in 2016 supporting Hope Builders Habitat for Humanity project in Salima, Malawi, where I joined a fantastic team from Miller Homes who managed to build 4 new homes for vulnerable children and families in just one week, Miller have committed to sending 2 teams in 2019 to take up the same challenge, one team will be Miller employees in April with a team from our Supply Chain to follow in June.

I am absolutely over the moon to confirm I have been asked to return to Malawi with the Supply Chain team and I have committed to run the Barcelona Marathon in support of our Habitat for Humanity partnership. The race takes place on the day of my 50th birthday, 10th March 2019. Running a marathon has always been on my bucket list and for it to fall on my big 5-0, in one of my favourite cities in the world, just as we commit to our next Malawi challenge, well to say it was fated is an understatement – I simply must do this, it's an omen!

A little over a year ago, I was involved in a terrible accident and there was one horrible moment where some thought I would never be able to walk a marathon let alone run in one so this is important to me on many levels. Throughout the battle back to good health, I often drew strength from my humbling and overwhelming experience helping the people of Salima, even on my worst days I still had so much more than these people could ever hope to have, yet they remain strong, proud and selfless. It was this display of character which brought me to this point and there is so much more we can do to help.

Please support me in the race of my lifetime, give me the encouragement to get me over the line in honour of a fantastic cause and a life-affirming personal achievement.
