My Story

Peter and I are retired, enjoy meeting people from different cultures and helping when we are able to. We are both involved in our local community in different ways and, before we get too old, have been offered the opportunity to be part of an exciting project in a very different culture.

Next June we are joining a group from Embsay, where we live, led by our own enthusiastic and experienced Habitat for Humanity leader, John Midgely, to help build brick homes for 2 families in a village in Malawi. This is one of the poorest countries in the world where the majority of homes are built of mud and straw which are easily destroyed by the weather. The head man and the whole community will decide which families will benefit the most. It will be hard work but an amazing experience for us as well as for the village people we will be working with.

Peter and I are lucky enough to be able to pay for our own transport and accommodation but would really appreciate any donations from you towards the materials necessary to achieve this end. It feels like it should be a good collaborative project from which we will all learn a lot and 2 families will have a solid home which will stand up to all weathers.
