My Story

Hi there!

My name is Emilia Mänttäri, and I am raising money to build water tanks that collect rainwater in Caruaru, Brazil, to provide the families living in the area access to clean water. In Caruaru, most people work in agriculture, and therefore the lack of water directly influences their income, which is already below the minimum wage. Additionally, in order to get water, many children and women in Caruraru must walk up to 2 hours each way, leading to many kids dropping out of school and women not being able to work.

I used to live in Brazil, and ever since I left, I've had the feeling that I want to go back and help. Now my employer, Cisco, gave me the opportunity to do just that, and I will go to Caruaru October 12th - 20th to build the water tanks. I am beyond excited about this opportunity, and it would mean the world to me if you can donate, even a small sum. The donations are used for the building materials, and matched by Cisco. So every donation has double the impact! (I am paying for my own trip, so none of the money goes to flying rich kids out to exotic countries!)
