My Story

After hearing about my friend James and his involvement with Habitat for Humanity and then reading about their work I have now joined a team of women who will be heading out to Siguatepeque, Honduras in September 2019 for my first build.  The project is working with women from all walks of life, and will provide strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.

Of Honduras’ population of 8.7 million, 66.5% of families live in poverty. More than 46% live in extreme poverty, and half of the population lives in rural areas where poverty reaches 75%. For this population, gaining access to a decent home through commercial mechanisms is practically impossible. The poor are not considered a high-risk population, and therefore they are not eligible for assistance from the government.

Knowing what a difference it will make to the community I will be working amongst and with the other volunteers, I am hoping you can help me to help them by giving whatever you can.  It may be the price of coffee, takeaway sandwich or a pint down the pub but every amount will help make the difference.

I'm looking forward to experiencing a country my luggage has been to some 24 years ago when it should have got off the plane in Guatemala!

Please tell your friends, family and colleagues about Habitat for Humanity Great Britain and help increase their impact here and abroad.  Thank you.
