My Story

I am very excited to be one of 20 employees in the London Market to be travelling to Malawi in October 2020 to support Habitat for Humanity.

Over the past few years there has been a great need for more secure housing in Malawi, four out of five families live in substandard homes with little hope of ever being able to afford a decent house. This puts families at high risk of diseases. 1.5 million children have been orphaned as a result of HIV and AIDS and that has led to a large number of households being led by children who cannot afford to look after the home. Habitat Malawi strives to enhance the resilience of families living in flood-prone areas by supporting and enabling them to have permanent, durable and flood-resistant shelter.

So far 22,000 clients have benefitted from this programme in Mulanje. 22,000 families that can now go to church, can now go to school and now be part of the community without the fear of losing their belongings.

I will be part of the team that join the local organisations to build housing that returns the opportunity of education and community to those who need the support most- I cannot wait to be part of this life changing experience.

I've volunteered for this program because I want to be part of contributing to change and seeing first hand the impact it has on a small community. For me this is such an amazing opportunity to support vulnerable people and see the local community and global volunteers turn a brick house into a loving home where families feel safe and there is a brighter future for young children and carers.

I can't think of a better way to change peoples lives and throughout 2020 I will be hosting a variety of fundraising events which I hope everyone can be involved in. I am also seeking donations from friends, colleagues and family to help me to reach a fund raising goal of £2000.

Any support received for this amazing charity which helps thousands around the globe, will be hugely appreciated!

Thank you,

Izzy Pratt
