My Story

In 2016, I came back from travelling South East Asia and Australia with a real determination to help make the world a better place. That’s why in November of the same year I decided to raise money for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) by shaving my hair, before then spending time in Calais, France the following January to lend my support to the Help Refugees charity. I’m now looking forward to my next venture, which will take place in February 2020.

I have been given the opportunity by CALA Homes to take part in a build project in Pondicherry, India, where myself and a team of 12 people will work with local builders over a week to help build a home for a local family. We’ll be working in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, who help low income families by improving housing solutions and supplying clean water and safe sanitation.

In rural India, the need for housing is significant. Hundreds of families today are living in accommodation which isn’t fit for purpose, leaving them without access to basic things such as sanitation facilities, which we take for granted. The tribal community we’re visiting are sadly no different – living in small huts with thatched roofs and with children at daily risk of dangers such as snakes, spiders, lizards and rats.

For the country to reach its vision of ‘a home for all by 2022’, over 110 million housing units will need to be built, and I’m excited to go out and help make this possible for one of the many families living in these unsafe conditions.

I believe that we’re all equal in this world and that everyone should be able to live a healthy life with a secure home, regardless of your ethnicity or background.

Before February 2020, I have a fundraising target of £800 and I would really appreciate any contribution you can afford. The money raised will go towards creating a safer place for families, helping to give children a brighter future and getting us one step closer to ending poverty in India for good.

Thanks
