My Story

Hola a todos!

I will embarking on a very challenging and exciting adventure next February along with other CALA Homes and Legal & General Homes colleagues, to support Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat for Humanity is an international organization that aims to build safe homes for the most disadvantaged people to create healthy and prosperous communities. This ethos aligns with what I have always believed is right. I am really thrilled to be a small part of their effort and contribute achieving the goal of decent homes for everyone.

The poverty in rural areas in India is extremely high. There are hundreds of families in desperate need of a decent place to live which they can call a home. In February 2020, I will be travelling to Pondicherry, India, where I will participate in a team initiative to help break the cycle of poverty. My team and I will be building a much needed new home for a family in the Irula Tribal Community. Currently, the tribal community live in small huts made of mud and cement with thatched roofs with no sanitation facilities and have to resort to using nearby fields. Children are at risk of dangers such as snakes, rats, lizards and spiders.

I’ve always felt the need to help those around me and trying to make everyone’s life just a little bit easier. The Build 2020 in India goes beyond what I have been able to do until now and so I am very grateful for the opportunity.

And now the difficult part. I will be forever grateful if you, my friend, help me achieve a £1,000 for this incredible cause. All the expenses for the trip are kindly covered by CALA Homes, so all your donations will go directly to support Habitat for Humanity and their efforts around the world. Also, thanks to CALA’s Matched Funding scheme for employees, the first £500 I raise will be doubled by CALA! With your help we will help families break the cycle of poverty for good. Any donation, big or small will honestly go such a long way. Remember to select the option for gift aid as this all counts too!

Thank you for your support and for spending a bit of your time reading my story. We can all make a difference – no matter how small.

Wish me luck!

Lucia
