My Story
Hello!
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
I am part of a team of volunteers from Residential Development Agents Society (RDAS) travelling to Guatemala in 2019 to build houses and install smokeless stoves. The team will work side by side with families and community members to construct houses that provide much needed security and safety. The smokeless stoves will create healthier homes and prevent respiratory disease. This vital work will provide a hand up for families living in poverty and forever change their lives.
Where? We are going to a city in Guatemala know as Sololá, many people who live in the slums of Sololá suffer from respiratory diseases as they currently cook and heat their home with open fires with little or no ventilation. Our trip will involve retro fitting smokeless stoves in to homes to alleviate this issue and in some cases repairing homes to make them more habitable.
Why? There is a housing deficit of 1.8 million homes across Guatemala. That leads to millions of Guatemalan families living in poverty and without access to decent housing. This is due in great part to the lack of investment, both public and private, in addressing the housing deficit. Many families cannot access credit in the traditional financial system and cannot meet the requirements of credit unions or banks for a home loan.
I am incredibly grateful for any donation as I know the people of Sololá will be.
Thank you,
Ollie
