My Story

I am delighted to have secured a place through my employers, Lloyd's of London to support the Habitat for Humanity charity in October 2020.

Habitat for Humanity are supporting a build initiate in Mulanje in Malawi, where there is a very high need for safe and secure housing.  Many children living in Mulanje have been orphaned as a result of HIV and AIDS and that has led to a large number of households being led by children who cannot afford to look after the home.  Not having somewhere safe and secure means they miss school, miss church and feel more vulnerable.  Housing poverty in Mulanje means that many people in the community live on less than $1 a day.

I will be part of the team that join the local organisations to build housing that returns the opportunity of education and community to those who need the support most.

As you know I am not an experienced builder!  I've volunteered for this assignment because I want to make a contribution to improving the lives of vulnerable people and understand first hand what impact that has.  It is also a special year for me (a birthday with a zero in it!) and I would like to mark that by doing something valuable, significant and memorable.  I can't think of a better way to do that, but I need your help!

I would really appreciate some support with fundraising.  You will see I have set myself an ambitious target of raising £3000.  I have paid my deposit and am now focused on fund raising, by making cakes, growing and selling plants, holding events and selling vintage clothes.  I am also seeking donations from friends, colleagues and family to help me to reach this fund raising goal.

I would be so grateful for any support you can give me!

Thank you in advance!
