My Story

Hello! Marhaba! Hola!

WHO?

I am currently working for Cisco, and we have the amazing opportunity to give back to our community with our Time2Give days on a yearly basis.

WHAT?

This year, I decided to join a group of awesome Cisconian volunteers to construct houses for the people of Caruaru in Brazil. This project will help build water tanks for families wit low socio-economic backgrounds.

WHY?

The locals of Caruaru mainly work in agriculture, and are paid less than the minimum wage in Brazil. Also, during summer the lack of rain-fall results in dry lands that prevent the cultivaiton of crops that these families rely on.

The lack of access to clean water forces local women, children, and the elderly to walk long distances several times a week in order to collect water for their homes. This walk takes up to two hours each way. Consequently, this leaves children unable to pursue an education, and women struglling to mantain a stable jobs, leading to their lack of contribution to household's income. Furthermore, the use of unclean water has created a risk in local people contractings diseases and health issues.

This project aimes to help families have access to safe, clean water through roof repairs and water tank construction.
