My Story

In Caruaru, Brazil, the lack of access to clean water forces women, children, and the elderly to walk long distances several times a week, a trip that could take up to four hours. As a result, it is common for children to drop out of school and for women to not have stable jobs as more time is dedicated to transporting water home every day. Most people living in Caruaru work in agriculture and are paid less than the minimum wage in Brazil. During the summer months, the lack of rainfall diminishes crops which in turn reduces the income of most of these families.

As part of Cisco’s Early Career Network group, I will be working with a team Cisco employees from over 15 countries to construct water cisterns for these families in Caruaru. I am very fortunate to work for a company that allows us time to give back to our local and global communities and I am grateful to be sponsored by Cisco to participate in this project. By the end of August, my goal is to raise £780 (around $986). All proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity UK and Brazil and will fund our clean water project.

I believe that every person, in every corner of the world, should have access to clean water. It is a basic human need for survival. I am humbled to be able to attend this build and to help families have access to safe, clean water. Any amount you choose to give is greatly appreciated and will be impactful for these communities - thank you all!
